RAYNAL, Abbé History of the Stadhouderat from its origin to the present. The Hague, 1748. In-12, full calf with arms stamped on the four corners of the boards, decorated covers. Corners dulled. 246 pp, table. Bound with the Breteuil arms. New edition, published as the original (1747) with mention of "Fourth edition". Fine title and header vignettes engraved in intaglio. Historical study on the Stathouder, political and military function. In the old Netherlands, the Stadhouder was a governor whose attributions fluctuated greatly according to the internal and external policies of the country. Ex-libris Montmorency.
