Italian majolica cup of the 16th century, probably Casteldurante Of contoured form, molded with a frieze of radiating spirals, with polychrome decoration in the center of a mythological scene in a lake landscape in a medallion formed by a plant frieze, surrounded by a frieze of characters and animals in triangular leafy reserves, the reverse side with blue and white decoration of leafy spirals, one section restored, missing pedestal, reduced rim, chips. Diameter : 26 cm Notes : This scene represents the Roman hero Caius Mucius Scævola who sacrifices his hand during the war against Porsenna in the 6th century BC.
