Circular copper plate with polychrome enamels, guilloche, gold highlights and red background representing the portrait of a Florentine prince after a watercolor by Paul Soyer, signed in gold in the lower right P. Soyer, monogrammed in gold in the lower left E.Y., under the cap P. S. interlaced, inscriptions in the upper left Paris. 1889; red translucent counter-glaze. Paris, Paul Soyer (1832-1903) and Lina Yvetot (active 1870 - 1889) 19th century, 1889 D. 11.3 cm (small accidents at the bottom) In a gilded frame, on a red velvet background Paul Soyer is the father of a dynasty of enamellers with a technique never equaled. He exhibited his art enamels for furniture, bronze and jewelry at the 1875 to 1892 salons. He received a Gold Medal at the 1878 Universal Exhibition. He collaborated with Claudius Popelin, Charles Duron and Beaugrand in particular. His son Théophile took over the workshop at 4 rue Saint-Sauveur in 1896.
