Set of documents tracing the training and career of Paul Tannery according to his diplomas and various appointments. - 3 diplomas (grammar exam, bachelor of science and bachelor of arts), granted to Tannery. Caen, 1856 and 1861. 3 pp. in-4 oblong. Engraved headers and frames with imperial blazons. Signed and stamped notably by the rector of the academy of Caen. - Diploma on vellum of, granted to Tannery. Caen, January 20, 1861. 1 p. in-4 oblong. Header with imperial coat of arms. Signed and stamped by the minister secretary of state and the rector of the academy of Caen, granted to Samson Paul Tannery. - Student engineer's commission on the letterhead of the Ministry of Finance appointing the Polytechnicien Samson Paul Tannery "Student engineer at the Ecole d'application des Tabacs in Paris", September 3, 1863. An addition stamped on the side certifies that Tannery was sworn in on October 8 of the same year, and the reverse side of the document, signed by the director of the Tobacco School, specifies that he "was installed in his functions on October 11. -ROLLAND, Eugène (1812-1885), polytechnic engineer, general director of the tobacco industry. 6 L.S. to Tannery. 1863 to 1880. 6 pp. in-4. One piece laminated on cardboard. Annual remuneration (1500 francs), date of re-entry and that of the obligatory presentation to the manufacture located Quai d'Orsay; appointment of Tannery "to the employment of sub-engineer of manufacture", in Lille; appointment of Tannery "to the central administration to fill the function of deputy head of the second office of the division"; appointment of Tannery, then engineer of the central service of constructions in Bordeaux, his promotion "to the 2nd class of your grade" to be perceived as "an encouragement to redouble your zeal and efforts to justify the confidence of the administration"; transfer to Le Havre, to : "complete your knowledge of our various manufactures and to acquire the experience necessary for the management of the workshops" and promotion: "you are raised on the spot to the 1st class of your grade". - 2 engineer commissions of January 1872 and May 7, 1877 from the administration of state factories appointing Tannery "3rd class engineer at the Manufacture des Tabacs de Toulouse" then calling him to the Manufacture des Tabacs du Havre. - 2 letters dated May 31, 1881 from the under-secretary of state for finance, Wilson, addressed to Ba?haut and Reynal and transmitted to Tannery: "You have kindly recommended to me for the position of engineer at the Tobacco Factory in Paris (Gros Caillou), Mr. Tannery, engineer in Le Havre. I regret to inform you that [...] the requirements of the service did not allow me to give satisfaction to this engineer. [...] When a favorable opportunity arises, I will do my utmost to assist him". - 4 letters and appointments (June 29, 1883, July 5, 1883, February 14, 1888, and June 11, 1892) from Tannery to the directorate of expertise in Paris; letter from the general directorate of state manufactures to Tannery: "I am pleased to have been able to obtain for you a residence to which you had specifically requested to be attached"; order addressed to Tannery to go "to Le Havre to attend the training exercises of the territorial army" and to serve as a roadmap for him; letter of appointment to the rank of Officer of Public Instruction. - Hellenic Polytechnic Society. Letter and diploma of admission dated January 21, 1899. Headers of the aforementioned society "whose goal is the development in Greece of the theoretical and applied exact sciences". Announcement of admission and patent in Greek. - Document on the letterhead of the Institute of France, signed Pingard. July 18, 1903 "I am pleased to announce that the Academy has just awarded a prize of ten thousand francs from the Jean Reynaud foundation to your work entitled Les œuvres de Descartes, published with the collaboration of M. Charles Adam".
