L.A.S. S.l., "Saturday 23 J. 1841". Beautiful letter of Mrs. Hamelin dedicated to her friend Chateaubriand : "[...] You think as I do, I am sure, that the interest of an autograph lies more in the movement of style, in the character of the personage, than in the quantity and quality of the writing ? This intimate note of Mr. de Chateaubriand will therefore please you. It is all him, and of him, since the July Revolution, that is to say, alas, that this beautiful genius was devoured by troubles under the weight of regrets, bitterness and melancholy. One must pity him and love him very much, because all his pains do not omit almost anything to his beauty, his enchanting grace and his ardent love of the fatherland [...]" -BOURGOING, Marie-Benoîte-Joséphine Prévost de La Croix, baroness of (1759-1838), superintendent of the House of the Legion of Honor in Saint-Denis. Ancelot refers to her painting exhibited at the 1828 Salon, entitled "Une lecture de M. Ancelot", where she depicted her husband in a salon surrounded by the literati of the time.
