LOUIS XIV. L.S. (handwritten), addressed... - Lot 243 - Coutau-Bégarie
LOUIS XIV. L.S. (handwritten), addressed to Pierre Seignette (1660-1719), physician to various members of the French royal family. Fontainebleau, September 14, 1699. 1 p. in-folio. Scorched paper. Document entirely restored and lined with invisible Japanese paper for reinforcement. Very interesting lettre de cachet containing a punitive transfer addressed by the King, to the physician Pierre Seignette. "His Majesty not being satisfied with the conduct of the doctor named Seignete in La Rochelle, he is expressly ordered to go to the city of Jargeau sur Loire [LOIRET] as soon as he is aware of the present order and to stay there until His Majesty allows him to leave [...]". This cutter fell precisely between the two founding periods of the doctor's career: in 1696, his research trip on thermal waters in the Pyrenees and in 1701, his return to grace two years after the present decree where he will be named doctor of the King's brother and then of his son, Philippe d'Orléans. Inscription on the back: "Lettre de cachet pour mon père l'année 1699".
