HUYSMANS, Joris-Karl (1848-1907)
HUYSMANS, Joris-Karl (1848-1907). Set of 12 pieces: 8 L.A.S. and 4 C.A.S., addressed to the lawyer and friend of naturalists Gabriel Thyébaut (1854-1922). [Paris], 1887-1888. 15 pp. in-8, in-12 and in-12 oblong. One side of envelope preserved. Huysmans suffers from a "mass of troubles" with his brochure and a "lot of appointments to find work and money", "Yes, it is all the same a pretty shit that life". He is bothered by a "raiser" of his family, "It rains and my soul stinks", "your letter has distressed me [...] and makes me relive pains similar to those that you experience, because those that one had remain badly extinguished [...] I shake your hand very hard". He evokes Henri Céard, Alexis-Louis Orsat, Stock, Thursdays at Zola's, his desires "some sweat still in the crotch", his morale "I feel, in me, by these stormy times, a tank of droppings, and soft droppings! No, decidedly, one does not have fun! Only one consolation, all the same, I use it often, and to the point - it is not to procreate children!" and its chores "goncouristes - I must attend a dinner at Lapeyrouse in honor of this ass of Rodin", etc.
