GUIMET, Émile (1836-1918),
industrialist and collector of objects. His collections of Asian arts gave birth to the Guimet Museum. L.S. to Mr. Charles Henri Burtin, assistant librarian of the city of Metz. January 16, 1878. 2 pp. in-8. Beautiful letterhead of the Provincial Congress of Orientalists, "3rd session". "[...] you will allow me not to consider your refusal to accept the office of delegate as definitive. If you have not met at first sight persons willing to subscribe to our Congress, it is possible that you will meet some shortly. I therefore come again to ask you to accept to be our delegate in Metz [...]". The aim of the Provincial Orientalist Congress was to contribute to the progress of ethnographic, linguistic and historical studies relating to Asia, Oceania and Africa, to encourage them and to popularize them in France.
