CHATEAUBRIAND, François-René de (1768-1848). Manuscript with autograph corrections, in red ink. S.l.n.d. 1 p. small in-8. Glued to the four corners of a sheet with the old mention "Notes autographes de Monsieur le Vicomte de Chateaubriand". Scratches, additions and corrections. About his grudges, forgiven, towards the society and his decorations "[...] I was in turn loaded with ribbons. I do not believe that they served me to chain my fortune". A second mention of the XIXth century specifies: "These notes corrected in red ink [...] were printed in the notes of the Essai historique sur les révolutions tome 2 page 59 and 210 of the Nouvelle édition des œuvres complètes de Mr le Vicomte de Chateaubriand published in Paris by Pourrat in 1832". It is joined: -a letter devoted to an article by Chateaubriand and the reaction it caused to Napoleon I (3 pp. ½ in-4), a letter addressed to Chateaubriand by a Parisian notary following the reading of the 2nd volume of the Genie du Christianisme (6 pp. in-8) as well as a piece addressed to Chateaubriand (2 pp. in-8). -Interesting 19th century copies of Chateaubriand's letters (14 pp. in-8, frailties). -Verse from Fontanes "to M. de Chateaubriand to console him for the unjust criticisms that have been made of his Martys" (4 pp. in-8). -A fragmentary handwritten article from the Revue littéraire "Un ennemi de Chateaubriand" (2 pp. in-8). -BEAUMONT, Countess of. L.A.S. S.l.n.d. 1 p. 1/ in-12. "I have come to beg you, Sir, to do what you deem appropriate in this matter, I am so bored with all these ignoble little quibbles that I am in a great hurry to finish [...]". -MONTMORIN, Marquis de Saint-Hérem, de. L.A.S. Paris, April 7, 1921. 4 pp. in-8. Mourning paper with a crown printed on the letterhead and address: 45, rue de Bellechasse. The marquis addresses himself to a collector of autographs to acquire a precious letter of Chateaubriand addressed to his ancestor Pauline de Beaumont (born Montmorin). He had seen this piece in a dealer's catalog but was too late.
