CHATEAUBRIAND, François-René de (1768-1848).
Autograph manuscript. S.l.n.d. 2/3 p. small in-4. Minor marginal restorations. Erasures, additions and corrections. Working notes by Chateaubriand for his Essay on English Literature (1836) about various characters from the first part of the 13th century in England. "At the wedding feast of the Earl of Cornwall in 1243, thirty thousand dishes were served, and in 1251, sixty fat oxen were provided by the Archbishop of York at the wedding of Margaret of England with Alexander III King of Scotland. The royal meals were mixed with interludes: one heard all menestrandie; the clerks sang songs, rondeaux and virelais".
