VICTOR HUGO'S ELECTION - 1871. Attached is the list of the 40 candidates proposed by the National Assembly for the legislative elections in the department of the Seine and two ballots where Victor Hugo's name appears and the official dispatch of February 14, 1871, announcing Victor Hugo at the head of the list. Victor Hugo, hero of the fight against Napoleon III and the Second Empire, was elected deputy of the Seine on January 19, 1871 and went in February to Bordeaux, where the Assembly was going to sit.
