FOUCHER Paul (1810-1875)
French novelist and journalist, brother-in-law of Victor Hugo. Set of 3 L.A.S.: "Paul Foucher" and "Foucher", addressed to Viscount Alcide de Beauchêne (1800-1873), gentleman of the chamber at the Ministry of the King's Household, undated (1827) and April 2 (1827), in-4°, one of them on the letterhead of the Ministry of War. Stains, tear. "Moïse et le Siège de Corinthe and Moïse: I am beginning to know by heart the repertoire of the Opéra, so I must turn to the left bank of the Boulevard. If it were possible for you to get a ticket for the Opéra Nation tonight, you know in advance that I would be grateful. If even the amateurs left you a second one vacant, I could go and ask someone for dinner and take him to the show by way of a fee". "I have the honor of requesting Monsieur de Beauchesne, and to inform him that Mr. le Vicomte will receive next Wednesday at noon, Messrs. Gal Hugo and Vic. Hugo. It could happen that these gentlemen will have difficulties to enter. In order to prevent them, I ask Mr. de Beauchesne to give me an audience ticket for both of them (...)". "I thank Monsieur de Beauchesne for his kindness. A good part of the Council of War will make use of this ticket. I send to Victor Hugo to know if he wants to be of the party and I would accompany the young couple if I had the certainty that that would get me the advantage to respect viva voce, all my thanks."
