HUGO Victor (1802-1885)
L.A.S.: "Victor Hugo", addressed to the mother of a condemned man Gilles Vital, dated March 12, 1875, in-4°, preserved in an old gilt wood frame, folds, but good general condition. Text: "Since 2 days Madam, I knew the painful news. I had just raised my voice again for the unfortunate condemned children. Lost voice alas! Your son enters the great amnesty from above, God has commuted his sentence and admits him into the light. May this soften your mourning. I put myself at your feet, poor mother." Historical : Very beautiful letter sent by Victor Hugo to the mother of a young man condemned after the Commune in Paris. Victor Hugo had long called for a general amnesty to be granted to all Communards. It is only in January 1876, once elected senator, that he could present a project in this sense to the Senate. Victor's letters containing the word God are quite rare and sought after.
