PART OF AN ENGLISH PORCELAIN SERVICE (ROYAL WORCESTER). First half of the 20th century, probably circa 1935, black stamped marks BONE CHINA ROYAL WORCESTER MADE IN ENGLAND, recessed marks. Of contoured and gadrooned form, with red, white and gold decoration of a sword surmounted by a closed crown standing out on a wide green band between two gold fillets and above a stylized vegetal frieze, comprising: 1 vegetable dish and its lid, 2 sauce boats, their lids and 2 trays, 1 sauce boat and 2 trays, 2 hollow oval dishes (of two sizes), 26 large plates, 12 plates, 8 dessert plates, 7 bread plates, 1 sugar pot and its lid, 1 milk pot, 8 teacups and 12 saucers, 8 cake plates; small cracks and minor wear. L. of the large oval dish : 48,5 cm. Provenance: H.H. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Maharani Sita Devi Sahib Gaekwad. Acquired by the present owner directly from the Maharani Sita Devi Sahib Gaekwad. Notes: The state of Baroda is in India; established by an officer, Pilajirao Gaekwad in 1726, it is transformed into a principality, eventually becoming an independent sovereign state around 1734. The descendants increased their power to become the most powerful family in the Gujarat region. Maharani Sita Devi Sahib Gaekwad (1917-1984), is the third daughter of the first marriage of Meherban-i-Dostan Sri Maharaja Ravu Venkata Kumara Mahipathi Suryarao Bahadur Garu, Sadar, Rajahmundry Circar and Maharaja of Pithapuram, and Sri Maharani Chinnanamba Devi. Married in first marriage to Tahowar-o-Jaladat Dastagah Meka Venkata Apparao Bahadur, Samindar of Vayyur, they had three children. In her second marriage, she married Major-General H.H. Frazand-i-Khas-i-Daulat-i-Inglishia, Shrimant Maharajah of Baroda, from whom she had an only son, Shrimant Maharajkumar Sayajirao Geakwad, who died without posterity in 1985 and ended this branch of the Gaekwad.
