DIEUDONNE Jacques-Augustin (1795-1873)
Bust of Louis-Philippe, then Duke of Orleans (1773-1850), wearing the plaques of the orders of the Holy Spirit, Saint Louis and Saint January. In bronze with brown patina, signed Dieudonné and dated 1829, resting on a later base of rerectangular shape in bronze and resin. Slight wear from the time, but good general condition. H. : 52 cm - L. : 36 cm. History : Pupil of Bosio, Jacques-Augustin Dieudonné was one of the most prominent portraitists and engravers of his time. He received orders from the Duke of Angouleme, King Charles X and Louis-Philippe. Following the example of his master Bosio, Dieudonné excelled in the rendering of textures and in the precision of details. Reference: A similar bust is in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. A marble version is in the Château de Chantilly, from the former collection of the Duc d'Aumale, as well as another bronze copy, but not signed, which was sold at the time of the succession of the Count and Countess of Paris, on October 14, 2008 at Christie's, under the number 63A.
