PORCELAIN CUP AND SAUCER, FEUILLET MANUFACTURE,... - Lot 122 - Coutau-Bégarie
PORCELAIN CUP AND SAUCER, FEUILLET MANUFACTURE, PARIS, CIRCA 1816. Decorated with a polychrome portrait of King Louis XVIII (1755-1824), signed and dated on the right "Baltz, 1816", after a portrait painted by Baron Gérard, framed by a gold cartouche with palmettes decoration, on the back appear two coats of arms of France in mat gold on a satin gold background. Cup of the form known as "Jasmin", with flared and curved neck, handle raised in crook, resting on three legs of lion, inside with satin gold bottom. The saucer is slightly flared and rests on a heel, with alternating decoration of trophies and flowers in mat gold on a gold background. Mark on the back of the cup in green letters "Feuillet, rue de la Paix, n° 20", circa 1816. Very good general condition, wear of time to the saucer. H. : 11 cm - Diam. : 8,5 cm and 14 cm. History: Jean-Georges Baltz (1760-1831) was a famous painter in the 19th century, notably for his landscape views, but also for his work as a miniaturist on porcelain and enamel. Our cup is a rare example of his skill on porcelain.
