BRIEY Albert de (1826-1888)
Tutor of the children of king Leopold I of Belgium. Autograph letter signed "Albert", addressed to his father the count of Briey, July 18 (1846), in-4°, 8 pages, text in French, preserved with its envelope with red wax seal. Bends. "You are now experiencing painfully my dear Albert why I could not take it upon myself to advise you to stay (...) Why don't you open up more to the queen? Why do you always go through a third party? But the queen is a compatriot for you, she is the daughter of your sovereign, she is your born protector. She is the mother of your pupils, she has always taken care of their education, why don't you talk to her? (...) you ask nothing but the right thing, that you are not guided by ambition, nor by foolish pride, that with less devotion, attachment to the princes and delicacy you would no longer be in Laken, and she will be a support and intermediary for you. Think about it. (...) I am calmer now, the return of Prince Leopold has greatly relieved me. His conduct towards me has done me more harm than I could myself have foreseen and suspected. It made me feel how much I am attached to these children and how painful it would be for me..."
