Saber of honor for the light cavalry, silver mounting, filigree fuse, right angle cruise and double break at half ear, iron scabbard decorated with two silver trimmings. The inscription above the first band "Le premier consul au citoyen Joseph Bordet capitaine à la 14eme demi-brigade de ligne" and on the reverse side "Manufacture à Versailles" (partly erased). Very pure weapon in its original state. Guard stamped with a rooster. Consulate period Bordet (Louis-Joseph), captain in the 14th regiment of line infantry, officer of the Legion of Honor. Bordet was one of those brave officers by whom the soldiers of the regiment whose flag they illustrate swear. He is cited for a great number of exploits: On 7 Floréal Year 2, he was one of the first to enter Courtray, charged, with his company of skirmishers, on an Austrian battery, and seized two cannon. Three days later, at the battle of Moëcron, he forced a Hessian battalion to lay down its arms. On the 19th of the same month, he jumped into a redoubt and took 250 prisoners. On the 23rd, with seven of his soldiers, he attacked two artillery pieces, which he took away after killing the gunners who were maneuvering. On 30 fructidor of the same year, at the affair of Boxtel, he gave proofs of the greatest courage, and was terrible by his audacity. On that day, several hundred enemies asked him for quarter. Until the year 13, this officer took part in all the campaigns of the revolution. Everywhere his valor was admired, and long after serious wounds, received in Italy, forced him to accept his retirement, his comrades still held him up as a model.
