Flower box in Japanese lacquer, chased and... - Lot 169 - Coutau-Bégarie
Flower box in Japanese lacquer, chased and gilded bronze frame, square shape, the panels decorated with flowers in gold lacquer on aventurine background, resting on courge feet, the handles in stylized branches, the lid with daisies. Marked with a crowned C for 1745-1749. Louis XV period. H. :10.5cm (missing a bronze element, wear to the gilding). Notes: Our flower box illustrates perfectly the taste for exoticism in vogue in the early years of the reign of Louis XV. It testifies to the fantasy and inventiveness of the mercantile merchants who, following the example of Lazare Duvaux, knew how to adapt the lacquers of the Far East to the European taste by creating objects of great luxury by the addition of a gilded bronze mounting which gave them a new destination.
