Pair of Qadjar candlesticks in the name of Nassereddine Shah Gold damascened steel Iran, 19th century, Qadjar period Height 29 cm These two steel candlesticks have a beautiful gold damascened decoration. Four mandorles decorated with floral scrolls adorn their wide circular base. The central part takes the form of a hemisphere decorated with four calligraphic cartouches, and a frieze of openwork fleurons in the lower part. Fine friezes of stylised foliage decorate the upper part of the shaft, as well as the rim of the base. The four inscriptions mention: -. 1 "May God perpetuate the kingship of Shah Qajar". -. 2 "The Sultan, the Khagan" -. 3 "The Sultan, son of the Sultan" -. 4 "The Khagan, son of the Khagan, Nassereddine" This type of titulation is found on many metals of the period. (Traces of varnish, good general condition).
