François Ladatte (1706-1787)
A chased and gilded bronze bust of a man forming a therma, the sheath decorated with interlacing daisies, the man draped, looking slightly to the right. Around 1760-1770. A later white marble base. H. : 35 cm. Our bronze was certainly part of a series intended to decorate the uprights of an amateur's library. Only a few examples of these busts in reduction carried by sheaths are known, let's mention the one of Louis XVI made in gilt bronze after the model of Bachelier (see Christie's sale of April 29, 2014, Paris, lot 17)
