The Castel Sant'Angelo, and the Basilica of Saint Peter in Rome, ca. 1780 Folded fan, known as the "Grand Tour", with optical curiosity, the double gouache-painted paper sheet of a view of Rome from the Tiber with the Castel Sant'Angelo on the right and in the background the Basilica of Saint Peter, in the taste of Antonio Joli (1700-1777). The leaf and the plumes have a hollowed out circle corresponding to an adjustable optical system working with two optical lenses placed in the plumes (missing). Roman site and ruins on the reverse. Black painted bamboo mount. The head in ivory*. H.t. 29,5 cm-H.f. 15,5 cm (wear, restorations, accident to a strand)
