Hector's farewell to Andromache, circa 1760 Folded... - Lot 121 - Coutau-Bégarie
Hector's farewell to Andromache, circa 1760 Folded fan, the leaf in skin, mounted in English, and painted after the famous painting by Jean Restout (1692- 1768). The Trojan prince bids farewell to his wife and son while his chariot awaits to take him into battle against Achilles. Rich gilded ornaments of exotic inspiration on the sides. The reverse side painted with a child bringing a helmet to a soldier. Rich ivory mount* very finely pierced, cut, carved and engraved with two figures in cartels framing a soldier crowning a woman with flowers. Closed, the fan presents an exceptional carved decoration. The plumes are decorated with characters in the upper part, loves and flowers. The fields are carved in relief, with variations, one of a woman's portrait, and the other of a man's portrait, in a medallion supported by a love, and carried by a caryatid emerging from foliage. H.t. 26,7 cm-H.f. 11,7 cm (good condition, restorations)
