Xinyi flowers, China, early 19th century Folded fan, the double sheet of paper painted with large magnolia flowers, "xinyi" in Chinese. The reverse side is decorated with calligraphic characters in Indian ink, on a background of gold leaf fragments, of a poem about ten flowers for ten friends, by the poet Ruan Yuan ? (1764-1849), famous calligrapher and scholar of the Qing dynasty. Red stamps on the left side. Black wood mounting, the top of the plumes carved in Ruyi scepter, symbol of happiness, and inlaid with silver threads and half a red stone. Both plumes also have the calligraphic characters "????" for "happiness" in inlaid silver.
