Aeish-Bâgh, Palace of Soleyman-Sheko, brother of the Emperor of Delhi, in Lucknow, capital of the Kingdom of Oude (East India). Watercolour on paper, 222 x 295 mm. Presented on an album leaf, titled lower center. Annotation, lower left: Drawing brought from Lucknow Title continues: (This house was the residence of the Jancigny Family, from 1831 to 1835, Adolphe being then Aide-de-camp to the King of Oude.) Muhammad Sulaiman Shikoh Shahzada Mirza Muhammad Sulaiman Shikoh Bahadur, owner of the palace shown in our drawing, was the son of Shah Alam II, 18th Mughal Emperor of India, from 1759 to 1806. Robert Orr was an esquire, and lived at Fort Gloster, on the outskirts of Calcutta, where he died on 16 October 1842, aged 37, as stated in the Asiatic Journal and Monthly Register for British and Foreign India, China and Australasia (Vol. XXXIX, September-December 1842, p.431). Provenance: from the album amicorum of Anna de Beauchesne (1803-1876).
