Philippe VIGNON (1638-1701)
Portrait said to be of Mademoiselle de Nantes reclining on a sofa Canvas 146 x 113 cm Signed lower left and dated 1689. Provenance: sale Paris, Hôtel Drouot 10 June 1908, No. 40 (portrait of a woman, Allegory; signed and dated 1689). Son of Claude Vignon, Philippe specialized in portraits and history paintings. His work is unfortunately little known but his reception pieces presented to the Academy in 1687, the portrait of the architect Henry de Mauperché and that of the sculptor Philippe de Buyster reveal a sense of observation inherited from Flemish artists.
