PRECIOUS MINIATURE CABINET WHICH BELONGED
TO QUEEN CHRISTINE AND THEN GIVEN TO HER DAUGHTER QUEEN ISABELLE II OF SPAIN.
Vienna, late 19th century.
Rectangular shape, in blackened wood, decorated on each side with 22 polychrome enamelled plates representing mythological scenes, mainly gods, including Diana, Cupid and Venus, framed by four columns also enamelled with floral motifs on a pink background, surmounted by ormolu putti holding horns of plenty, the upper part is decorated with a dromedary ridden by an ormolu putto. The front opens with two doors revealing three interior drawers decorated with landscape and a drawer in the belt. This historical object is accompanied by a rectangular silver plate held by a chain with links, on which is engraved the history of this cabinet. Enclosed is an envelope with the coat of arms of the royal house of Spain addressed to Baron Ch de Behr, containing a visiting card on the letterhead of Queen Isabella II of Spain with the handwritten inscription in French: "Je remercie cher Baron sincèrement de son joli souvenir qui m'a fait beaucoup de plaisir, affectueusement". Slight wear from the time, small lacks, but good general condition.

History : former collection of Queen Marie-Christine of Spain, born princess of the Two Sicilies (1806-1878), wife of King Ferdinand VII (1784-1833). Then by inheritance to her eldest daughter, who became in 1833, Queen Isabella II of Spain (1830-1904) and offered by the sovereign to Baron Louis Charles de Behr (1814-1895).
Provenance: this precious cabinet as indicated by the inscription engraved on a silver plate that accompanies it is a: "cupboard from the Escorial having belonged to H.M. Queen Christine of Spain, born Princess of Naples. Gift of H.M. Queen Isabella II of Spain".
