[BIBLIOTHÈQUE DU ROI LOUIS-PHILIPPE]
Handwritten text signed A. Bachelot, dated November 2, 1847, entitled La France depuis la mort de Napoléon, 190 pages gilt on edges preserved in a beautiful purple morocco binding, stamped in the center of the first cover with the inscription in gold letters "To His Majesty Louis Philippe First King of the French" in a frame with arabesque motifs and three fillets. Wear and tear of the time. Summary : "(...) Napoleon is no more: the unhappy France, hiding its eyes under a veil of mourning, towards bitter weeping: it loses the hope to see its hero again, even in his coffin. (...) O you Napoleon! who, by so much valour (...) was twice victorious. You who for a long time the idol of France was a soldier at the beginning and became emperor! (...) Of King Louis-Philippe, let us admire his prudence. He foresaw the time necessary for success, knowing that by the people he was made king of France. (...) Louis Philippe wants for his name and his glory that the industry arrives at the top of the progress; in fact of policy he holds with the victory: his projects are always crowned of success. (...) Louis Philippe, elected by France itself, of Europe today the greatest sovereign, demands the respect due to his diadem; the insult would see him with arms in his hand. (...) Louis Philippe hopes to spare France the need for fighting and its disastrous effects; he wants to realize his praiseworthy hope and his constant efforts deserve success..." Provenance : former collection of King Louis-Philippe, then by descent to Prince Henri de France, Count of Paris (1908-1999), from the Montpensier Pavilion in Europe.
