Les otages de S.M. le roi Louis XVI et de S.M. la reine Marie-Antoinette en 1792, par Mr de Rozoi et Mrg l'Abbé Montreuil, 1883, in-folio, 192 pages, gilt edges, beautiful period binding signed E. et A. Lesort in Paris, in brown morocco, cold-stamped in the centre of each plate with the large arms of France decorated at each corner with a fleur-de-lys and framed with a large leafy frieze. Text entirely handwritten, illustrated with hand-painted polychrome coats of arms and decorated with two large photographic portraits by Ch. Tesson of King Louis XVI and Queen Marie-Antoinette. With in opening a dedication signed Lontaigne de Logivières dated July 15, 1883 offering this book to the Count of Chambord, then on September 25, 1883 this work was offered to the Count of Paris. Bears on the title page the ink stamp of the "Bibliothèque de S.A.R. Mrg Le comte de Paris". Freckles, slight age wear, but overall good condition. History: this book contains the names, mottos and coats of arms of the faithful servants who offered to be hostages in place of King Louis XVI and Queen Marie-Antoinette after their return from Varennes and imprisonment in the Tuileries. It was initially given to the Count of Chambord, but on his death on 24 August 1883 was dedicated to and given to King Louis-Philippe's grandson, Prince Louis-Philippe d'Orléans, Count of Paris (1838-1894).
