Vulcan enchains Prometheus, he is backed by Force and Violence. The nymphs of the Ocean, carried on the wings of the winds, express their pain over the state in which Jupiter has reduced him. Pen and brown ink on tracing paper 23.5 x 29.5 cm. Taken from engraved plates 2 and 3 of the "Composition after the tragedies of Aeschylus, drawn by John Flaxman, English sculptor" of 1795. Provenance : From the attic of the Countess of X... (born around 1930), a member of a family of enlightened amateurs, having assiduously attended the distinguished sales of the Hôtel Drouot in the years 1880-1910.
