CHANTILLY (attribué à)
Pseudo mark in blue with two crossed swords. Porcelain bowl and lid, with Khakiemon decoration known as "with a flowering hedge", the lid restored, restoration at the edge of the basin with cracks. 18th century, around 1730. Width: 20.5 cm Notes: In the early days of its production, the Chantilly factory, like many other European manufacturers, was inspired by and even copied the famous Khakiémon decoration then in vogue in the years 1730-1740. Like Vincennes, it also produced "Saxon-style" porcelain, copying not only its shapes and decorations but even imitating its marks (see the Vincennes porcelain bowl in the collections of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, Inv. 22315). It is therefore not surprising, even if very rare, to find such a mark on this piece, perhaps making it easier for the manufactory to sell them. For another piece in Chantilly porcelain with a Khakiemon decoration, but with imitation of Asian marks, see under the direction of Mathieu Deldicque the catalogue of the exhibition Porcelaines de Meissen et de Chantilly, la fabrique de l'extravagance, Saint-Rémy-en-l'Eau, 2020, p.76 and for an article by Viviane Mesqui about Meissen as a source of inspiration for Chantilly, see in the same catalogue, La porcelaine de Meissen, un modèle pour Chantilly dans les années 1740-1750, pp.191-195.
