ÉCOLE ROMAINE DU DÉBUT DU XIXE SIÈCLE
Jupiter enjoining Venus to get rid of her son Cupid Oil on canvas (canvas cover, old restorations, unframed) 73.5 x 97 cm. Rare iconography of this episode in which Jupiter, foreshadowing trouble to come, encourages his own daughter Venus to abandon her child, promised to become the god of Love This engraving probably derives from engraving no. 30 of the series of the History of Psyche, engraved by the Master with the Dice after Raphael and published by Antonio Salamanca in the 1530's. A copy of this collection can be found at the BNF (inv. TA-39-4).
