BARON GOURGAUD'S TABLE SERVICE, PARIS, 1819-1838. Set of 12 silver plates slightly hollow, engraved in the center with the coat of arms under crown of Baron Gaspard Gourgaud (1783-1852), bordered by a finely carved palmettes frieze. Slight wear and tear. Title stamp: First title to the old man, Paris, 1819-1838. Goldsmith's hallmark: JVM, unidentified, but referenced. H.: 2,5 cm - Diam.: 24,5 cm. Total weight: 5 kg300 g. History: Gaspard Gourgaud (1783-1852) is a French general and politician. Artillery officer, he became the first aide-de-camp, then one of the main memorialists of Napoleon I, to whom he saved twice the life. He accompanied the Emperor in exile to Saint Helena, but left the island in 1818. Through his marriage to Françoise Marthe Roederer (1783-1823), he became a director of the family company Manufactures de glaces et verres de Saint-Quirin, Cirey et Monthermé.
