École française du XIXe siècle.
Portrait of the young Prince Philippe VII, Count of Paris (1838-1894). Pencil drawing with white chalk highlights, signed lower right, but not identified, preserved in its modern giltwood frame, with identification plate at the bottom of the document. Good condition. Sight: H.: 29 cm - W.: 22 cm. Frame: H.: 49 cm - W.: 40.5 cm. History: this drawing was made around 1841, on the occasion of the christening of the son of the Duke of Orleans, the Count of Paris, at Notre-Dame. The cathedral does not appear in the background of this drawing, as in the lithographed version published after the event. It is also interesting to see the sword created by Jean-Baptiste Klagmann under the direction of Froment-Meurice in this drawing. It is currently in the Carnavalet museum (reference: OM3242, inv. OA209). This masterpiece of Parisian silverware was offered by the municipality of the City of Paris to the young Count of Paris, on the occasion of his baptism, celebrated on May 2, 1841 at Notre-Dame. Various allegorical figures (War, Justice, Prudence, Strength) and symbols (arms of the Prince and the City of Paris, Gallic cockerel), recalling the virtues of a prince and the City of Paris, make up the pommel, spindle and jointing arch and are decorated with diamonds, sapphires, rubies, pearls and enamels. In his will of 18 April 1878, the Count of Paris, Louis-Philippe d'Orléans (1838-1894), bequeathed his sword to his eldest son, Philippe d'Orléans (1869-1926), who in his will of 26 November 1922 bequeathed it to the City of Paris.
