ROUND RED JASPE BOX, ROME, CIRCA 1810, ATTRIBUTED TO FILIPPO PUGLIESCHI. Lid decorated with a micro-mosaic medallion depicting a lion and a dog fighting. This decoration is a repetition of the painting A lion devouring a dog by Johann Wenzel Peter (1742-1829). Rose gold mounting. Wear and tear, but good condition. Italian work, no apparent hallmarks. H. : 3 cm - Diam. : 8 cm. Reference : the micro-mosaic can be attributed to Filippo Puglieschi. This artist was extremely skilful and very famous for his animal scenes, often inspired by paintings very fashionable at that time, especially those of Johann Wenzel Peter.
