Johann Heinrich Hintze (1800-1862)
At the home of Countess Alphonse de Bruges, née Henriette de Golowkin, in Berlin, 1839 Watercolour, on graphite line on paper. 17.5 x 28.5 cm. Signed and dated lower right: H.Hintze 1839. Annotated, above, in ink: "Berlin, at my beloved mother's house", then, below: "Birth of my son in this room / October 19, 1834 / a beautiful day in my life". Apollonia was born in Berlin, where his father, the Viscount of Bruges, emigrated and married Henriette, Countess of Golowkin. Back in Paris, she befriended Aurore Dupin, the future Georges Sand, at the convent of the English Augustinian Ladies, then
