COTY, Egyptomania, circa 1900-1920 Amazing hand screen. The handle in silver 800 thousandth, decorated with an enamel plate with mauve flowers circled in purple, and the "sign of life" or "cross of life", symbol of immortality and eternity in the Egypt of the Pharaohs. Signed on the face, below, "COTY". Old discharge mark. Ostrich feathers tinted in purple. The reverse side with an application of silver mechanical lace, modern. H.t. 61 cm (restorations) NB: it is probably François Coty (1874-1934), perfumer, founder of Coty perfumes. A great industrialist, collector and patron of the arts, he was a pioneer in creating ranges of beauty products. This fan could have been created on the occasion of a social event. This fan is to be compared with the great balls of which the one on the Egyptian theme of the Countess of Béarn in 1914. Or the Russian ballets, Léon Bakst having collaborated with François Coty.
