Les pavots pour Yvette Guilbert, circa 1890 Folded fan, the double sheet of skin painted with two bunches of red poppies framing the number "YG" for the famous Parisian café-concert singer Yvette Guilbert (1865-1944) who performed at the "Moulin Rouge" and later at the "Divan japonais". And poem by Armand Silvestre (1837-1901), writer and lyricist. Dedication on the right "To her friend Miss Yvette Guilbert" and signature of "Georges Cain". Dull reverse. (stains) Natural wood frame. Number "YG" in silver on the plume. Silver plated metal clasp. H.t. 33 cm-H.f. 20,3 cm (wear to the folds) NB : Georges Cain, painter pupil of Cabanel and Detaille, French illustrator and writer. He was curator of the Carnavalet Museum in Paris from 1897 to 1919. He corresponded with Octave Uzanne, author of "L'Éventail", published in 1882. The Carnavalet museum has a fan in his hand decorated with thoughts (inv. EV0690)
