The Continence of Scipio, c. 1730 Folded fan, the double sheet of skin, lined with paper, and painted of Scipio receiving the supplications of a young man whose bride is destined for the general, after the work of Carlo Maratta (1625-1713). Soldiers and maids marvel at the magnanimity of the victor. The reverse side painted with the loves of Mars and Venus. White mother-of-pearl mount cut and engraved with birds framing a couple accompanied by dogs. The plumes carved on one side with Zephyr and Flora flown over by two loves, and on the other side with a love and a dolphin. H.t. 29,5 cm H.f. 18,2 cm (restorations, wear)
