The Discovery of Romulus and Remus, ca. 1730 Folded fan, the double cabretille leaf with brown cameo decoration, executed in pen and ink, after the work of Carlo Maratta (1625-1713). The shepherd Faustulus presents his wife with the two children he has just taken in. On the left, the she-wolf that has fed and protected them is moving away. This is the announcement of the foundation of the city of Rome. In front of a river god, a lover presents a handwritten cartel on the right "Faustulus/ Pueros Romu/lum et Remum /ad (?) tradit" (Romulus and Remus gathered by the shepherd Faustulus). On the reverse side, rich ornaments and important central cartel with Orpheus playing the lyre and the ship of the Argonauts. White mother-of-pearl mount pierced, carved and engraved alternately with two women and dolphins. The top of the strands in shell. H.t. 29,5 cm-H.f. 18 cm (missing, damaged and restored)
