The Phoenix and Cranes, China, 19th century... - Lot 13 - Coutau-Bégarie
The Phoenix and Cranes, China, 19th century
Folded fan, double sheet of embroidered cream silk. Down at the top edge. In a soft harmony of colours, a large phoenix is embroidered, resting on a rosebush in bloom. Four cranes are approaching from the left, while two others have joined a pond with water lilies.
On the reverse, branches of roses in bloom attract insects and birds. Ivory mounting*. The absence of carvings on the throat emphasizes the quality of the decoration of the deeply carved plumes of roses (6 mm thick), pagodas and figures in gardens.
H.t. 29,5 cm-H.f. 13,5 cm (very good condition, small stain)
In a double box. The first one in black lacquered bamboo decorated with a scholar in a garden with four characters. A couple of pheasants painted on silk under the lid. The second one in red cardboard, with a glass cover.
