History: This miraculous icon was already honoured in the 6th century at the time of Emperor Justinian, for having saved the repentant monk Theophilus, from the Church of Adnan, in Asia Minor, from eternal damnation. This intervention was at the origin of the name given to the icon. In Russia, this holy image manifested its miraculous character in Moscow, during the 18th century, in the home of a devotee of the parish of the Nativity of the Virgin in Palasak. Found in the church of Palasak after the devastation caused by the French in 1812, it was then the object of great veneration.
