ROMANOVSKY, Prince Serge Georgievich, 8th... - Lot 395 - Coutau-Bégarie
ROMANOVSKY, Prince Serge Georgievich, 8th Duke of Leuchtenberg (1890-1974). Manuscript autograph text in Italian, entitled "Arte Mundi", 6 pages, in-folio. Folds, freckles. In this text, the author expresses his opposition to the uncontrolled sale of European works of art in the United States and to the way the market is conditioned by American capital. As a solution to this decadence, he proposes the creation of a "great art and trade enterprise" run by a powerful, reliable and European Religious Association, and therefore proposes the Vatican as the executive director of this great control lobby. Especially since the Catholic Church has always been closely linked to the development of art over the centuries. According to him, the three main advantages of this choice would be precisely: 1 - to preserve the market and the "genius" of art in Europe, thanks to an organisation active worldwide like the Vatican. 2 - the Holy See can still save world art by promoting its educational values, which are neglected in secular contemporary art galleries devoted solely to speculation. 3-release art from the straitjacket in which it finds itself, after this purely commercial experience, in order to regain true creativity
