HÉLÈNE GUEORGUIEVNA, duchesse de Leuchtenberg, comtesse Stefan Tyszkiewicz, (1892-1971)
Set of seven L.A.S. of its diminutive: ''Lolia'', dated 1930, addressed to his brother, Prince Serge Georgievich Romanovsky (1890-1974), 36 pages, in-4 and in-folio, text in Russian. Good condition. These letters are dated 1930, shortly after the death of the recipient's father-in-law, Grand Duke Nikolaievich. Elena is delighted that her brother can be with their mother, Grand Duchess Anastasia, in time for the mourning period. She tells her brother the details of her stay in Warsaw and the wedding of a couple they are very close to, which took place in Rome. Elena asks about the sale of a painting, for which she is waiting for payment. She advises to sell other silver objects belonging to her properly. In order to support herself, the princess works with jewellers to whom she offers models of her creation. Through this correspondence, she describes in detail the course of her life without complaining despite the difficulties she encounters. With her aristocratic upbringing, she resigns herself to this new and sad existence in order to survive. She proposes to her brother to sell the castle of Choigny, former residence of Grand Duke Nicolas Nicolaïévitch. She seems happy that their mother is being followed by Doctor Malama, despite the fact that the latter's health is deteriorating. She also talks about the charity events she organizes for the Russian exiles under her patronage. In each of her letters she mentions the Countess Ignatieff and her daughter Olga who are in great financial difficulty (it was the Countess's son, Alexis, who sent the Soviets a cheque for 225 million gold francs, belonging to the imperial family). This correspondence shows her attachment to her sister and brother.
