Portrait of the Maharani of Kapurthala, née Anita Delgado-Brionès (1890-1962). Drypoint enhanced with colour and white chalk on old Japanese paper, signed lower left in pencil by the artist. Plate extracted from the album n° 3 on an edition numbered 10 copies, published in Paris in 1925. Good condition. H.: 36 cm - W.: 28 cm. History: Anita was a flamenco dancer and a Spanish singer of obscure origins, she seduced the very rich Maharajah of Kapurthala in Madrid, when the latter had come to attend the wedding of King Alfonso XIII of Spain with Princess Victoria-Eugenie de Battenberg. The Maharadja noticed her during one of these performances in a café-concert. It was love at first sight, they married in the tradition of Sikhism in 1908 and she took the title of Princess of Kapurthala.
