Portrait of Lady Michelham of Hellingly. Drypoint enhanced with color and white chalk on old japanese, signed lower left in pencil by the artist. Plate extracted from the album n° 3 on an edition numbered 10 copies, published in Paris in 1925. Good condition. H.: 36 cm - W.: 28 cm. History: Lady Michelham of Hellingly, née Berthe (Bertha) Capel, was the daughter of Arthur Capel, she married Herbert Stern, 1st Baron Michelham of Hellingly (1895-1919). Very famous British socialite, she was also the sister of Boy Capel (1881-1919), a famous polo player who was the great love of Gabrielle Chanel for 9 years and influenced her style. Barthe made headlines in the early 1920s during the trial following the death of her first husband, Herbert Stern, whose will was suspected of having been changed. In Paris she was nicknamed "Little Madame Landru". She tried in vain to divorce Prince Félix Youssoupoff so that she could marry him.
