École RUSSE du XIXe siècle - Lot 309
École RUSSE du XIXe siècle Portrait of Ambassador Peter Ivanovich Potemkin (1617-1700). Oil on canvas. Some restorations and lacks on the edges, but good general condition. H.: 61 cm - W.: 50 cm. History: Pierre Ivanovitch Potemkin was the special envoy of Tsar Alexis Mikhailovitch to the Spanish court and then to the French court in 1668. In his book published in 1855, entitled "The Story of Peter Potemkin's Journey", Prince Emmanuel Galitzin recounts the epic of this interesting adventure. Reference: this painting is similar to a full-length version of the Russian ambassador, painted in 1681 by Juan Carreño de Miranda (1614- 1685), in the Prado Museum in Madrid.
