PRESENT OFFERED TO PRINCE WALDEMAR OF DENMARK AND HIS WIFE THE PRINCESS MARIE D'ORLÉANS FOR THEIR WEDDING CELEBRATED AT EU CASTLE. Rectangular in shape, decorated with two oval medallions containing photographic portraits of Prince Waldemar of Denmark (1858-1939) and his wife Princess Marie d'Orléans (1865-1909), preserved under glass in a finely chased silver and gilt frame set with garnet and turquoise cabochons, the base of which is held by cherubs riding dolphins. The ensemble is surmounted by two blazons in polychrome enamels with the arms of the Royal House of Denmark and the Royal House of France surmounted by a royal crown. The lower part rests on a lapis lazuli plaque, engraved with the inscription: "22 October 1885". Slight wear and tear from time, but good general condition. French work signed on the reverse: "Froment-Meurice". H.: 12 cm - W.: 12 cm - D.: 7, 5 cm. History: this charming object was offered to the young couple, on the occasion of their wedding, celebrated on October 22, 1885 at the castle of Eu. Another model of a frame made by Froment-Meurice, but larger in size, was offered to the couple on the same occasion and can be found in the collections of the Château d'Eu, Musée Louis-Philippe, inv. 72.297. Reference: this object was loaned during the exhibition organised by Amalienborg Palace in 2003, as part of the chronological exhibition of the Danish kings.
