Portrait of Louise-Françoise de La Baume Le Blanc, Duchess de La Vallière (1644-1710), first official mistress of King Louis XIV. Oil on panel, preserved in an antique gilded wood frame. Bears a label on the back with the following handwritten inscription: "Louise Françoise de La Baume Le Blanc, duchesse de La Vallière had a son, named Duke of Vermandois, from Louis XIV. In 1675, she became a Carmelite nun, and in 1710, she died under the name Louise de la Miséricorde. On learning of her son's death, she replied: "I must mourn the birth of this son, even more than his death". Good condition, wear and tear and missing frame. At sight: H.: 35 cm - L.: 26 cm. Frame: H.: 45.5 cm - L.: 37 cm.
