Rare silver and gold metal pendant representing... - Lot 17 - Coutau-Bégarie
Rare silver and gold metal pendant representing the balloon of Jacques Charles and Nicolas Robert, the first manned hydrogen balloon that took off on December 1, 1783 from the Tuileries garden. This is a rare example of current jewellery made at the end of the 18th century. This first flight in a manned hydrogen balloon was a great success, a month and a half after the Hot Air Balloon flight at La Folie Titon. We will find its representation on many objects such as fans, boxes, printed canvases, engravings, paintings etc... it is however rather unusual to find jewels on this theme. French work, circa 1783. Puncture mark on the belly. Height: 6 cm.
